How To Get That Holiday Glow Without Buying The Air Miles

July 31, 2015

There is nothing I love more than to be lying on a beach somewhere hot working on getting that perfect holiday tan. Sometimes, however, it’s not always possible to be on that sandy beach with a cool mojito (or mocktail!) in hand, sometimes, we need a little helping hand to get that lovely holiday glow.

There are plenty of ways that you can go about to get that ‘yes I have just been on holiday’ look. While you can visit your local tanning salon, there are a variety of fake tan products readily available online and on the highstreet that you can use at home and cause less damage to your skin.

Self-Tan

Self Tan products, or as I like to refer to them ‘tan in can’, are great if you are looking to have an instant tanned look.  When using a product like this you should try and opt for something that suits your skin tone as you don’t want to look like David Dickinson! As an industry standard, these products normally come in three shades; light, medium or dark. He-Shi has a fab range of express tans but there are many others available.

As with most express fake tan products, do not moisturise your skin prior to application and always wear a fake tan mitt when applying.  I would recommend that you exfoliate first and then apply the product to dry, clean skin.

If you find fake tan application a bit tricky, there are some great step-by-step guides available online.

Gradual Tan

If you prefer a more lightly sun-kissed complexion, and have never used fake tan before Garnier has a great range of gradual tan moisturisers that build up a ‘glow’ a bit more naturally.  I would recommend trying their light sun-kissed lotion, it’s a lovely light, non-greasy moisturiser, that when used daily, builds up a beautiful tan.

After cleansing your skin, you should apply it to your body, arms and legs as you would with a normal daily moisturiser.  Not only will it leave your skin feeling soft and fabulous, you’ll have a gorgeous and subtle tan. Although I would advise that you wash your hands after each use!

Bronzers

Bronzers are great if you’re not confident with using a ‘tan in a can’ approach, but want to have a quick and easy sun kissed look. Temple Spa’s Bronzelicious is a gorgeous product that helps to give you a natural sun kissed appearance and unlike self-tan and gradual tan products, suits all skin tones.

You should apply this product to clean, dry skin. Using your favourite make up brush, dip the brush into the bronzer, making sure to carefully tap g off any excess, and lightly apply to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin.  Following this process, you can apply as many layers as you wish until you get your desired look.

Overall, there are many ways that you can fake that holiday glow without having to risk sunburn. If you do want to get a tan via sun bathing remember to look after your skin and apply sun cream and the after sun or a rich body moisturiser to ensure that your skin looks healthy and fabulous!
