Winter Wedding Wonderland Trip!

November 19, 2018

Winter weddings are beautiful, there is something super magical about the colder more festive season that just has love in the air! Of course, in the UK, this time of year can be pretty brutal, and Christmas festivities could overshadow the romantic day. So how can you plan the ultimate winter wedding from keeping guests warm to keeping Christmas out – or most of it anyway!

Venue

BOOK EARLY! Because if there isn’t a wedding going on, there will be a Christmas party! Due to unpredictable weather conditions, it’s best not to hire a marquee or have an outdoor wedding. I have always loved the countryside during winter as there is something about the fresh crisp air and rolling hills! It would be so magical to hire a country house or venue to have the ultimate winter celebration.

Of course, some guests may want to wander outside so do check if there is a sheltered area for smokers. You could make the outdoor area a little comfier with heaters and fairy lights for an extra romantic feel! The rustic barn feel is so romantic and cosy – perfect for a Winter wedding setting!

Venue décor

I always relate this time of year with cosiness and there is nothing stopping you from incorporating that into your celebration! Think open fire in the venue for that cold winter’s day feeling or candles for mood lighting and heat! Flowers have also been massive this year with Prince Harry and Meghan decorating the inside of St. George’s Chapel with a vast display of white garden roses, peonies and other white blooms designed by Philippa Craddock. The foliage around the entrance and altar was simply stunning and something that can be recreated in your venue!

Winter Welcome drinks

So, your guests have trekked from the altar to your venue, its cold outside and they are most likely cold too – cure the mulled drinks! Nothing feels better in the colder season than a warm glass of cider or wine. For those wanting something a little less hot – a spicy winter cocktail is a fabulous way to warm up your insides whilst tasting amazing! Some of the tipples I love the sound of are Boozy Mexican Hot Chocolate and Coco Snowball which you can find and DIY here.

Beautiful Bride

Of course, it is your big day and you do not want to be shivering away as you meet and greet all your loved ones! When picking out your dress, something with long sleeves will keep you longs stunning and feeling warm! However, sometimes it is a little tricky to find a vast selection of long-sleeved dresses and in these cases may be a cute little overcoat or jacket would work! You will also need to winter and weather proof the beauty look your going for, hiring a professional bridal hair and makeup artist will ensure that your look stay intact and flawless all night

The Guests

To pre-warn your guests you could pop a little suggestion of thermals and long-sleeved in your invite too. Especially if there are little ones, ensure they are wrapped up warm… you could even provide complimentary blankets! It would also be worth asking the venue about heating options whilst also keeping the warm beverages flowing throughout the evening!

These are only a few ideas for a beautiful winter wonderland wedding, of course, you can sprinkle some Christmas magic into your venue if you wanted! After all… It is your big day and it should be exactly how you want it.
