Moving home is never easy. Buying and selling is never easy. However, if your home is appealing to you it is likely it’ll be appealing to potential buyers when it’s time to sell up (I know, it’s sad to think about!). Even if you aren’t considering selling up in the foreseeable future it’s always a good idea to stay on top of home renovations. Not only do they add value to your home, they also keep your home looking nice!
As you know, I love interior design, but sometimes the more ‘boring’ tasks can be the most satisfying. I thought I would share with you a few home staging tips to add value to your home, and to improve its general appearance.
1. Painting and touching up

Visually, colour schemes can really make or break a home. A great way to add value to your place is by painting your walls neutral colours. Bright walls may look nice but when it comes to selling your home, but they may not be to everyone’s taste. It’s much easier to accessorise with neutral colours and there’s much more versatility when it comes to switching up your interior. If you don’t want to go all out with the painting, a few touch ups here and there will make a huge difference. Try replacing worn doorknobs and sockets as well painting over any wear and tear.
2. Carpets and flooring
Replacing any stained or worn carpets will make a huge difference. We’ve all been there, whether it’s a glass of red wine or eyeshadow pressed into the carpet it’s mistakes like this which cause our carpets to no longer look tip-top. Replacing them will revamp your room- just take extra care at avoiding those drunken spillages! If this is out of your budget, just give it a good clean!
3. Exterior

The front of your home is the first thing people see when they visit, so you want it to be looking its best! All front gardens are different so depending what yours is like, try adding some plants and mowing the lawn. Even if you don’t have green fingers having a pretty front garden is achievable. Any fencing outside should be painted, and why not add a cute doormat? There are loads of ways you can update your front garden to make it stand out.
4. Furniture
Keeping your furniture in good condition will keep your home looking presentable. I love to frequently rotate my furniture layout to update the appearance. Saying that, furniture can be so expensive, so if you’d rather you can actually rent furniture purely for home staging. Saving you both time, money and making your house look that extra bit special.
5. Cleaning

Yes, the dreaded ‘c’ word. As tedious as it is, it must be done! When the time comes it may be worth getting a professional cleaner in. But for the meantime, whack on the marigolds and clean, clean, clean. Afterwards you can relax with a nice cuppa tea and wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
As stressful as home staging may be, financially it’ll be worth it. Trust me, all the grafting and hard-work will be well worth it and you’ll be left with a gorgeous home ready for show. Good luck!
